The Tablet PC is the modern world’s latest and most exciting innovation. It has taken computing to an all new level. Though it had been introduced in the market nearly three to four years ago, but it was learned by the world only recently. Now it has assumed the role of a style statement as well as that of a portable utility device.
The Tablet PC resembles a laptop, with the only difference that it does not have a keyboard. It is a mobile computer with only a slate like screen that functions on touchscreen technology. Instead of typing text using a keyboard, users use a special pen like device that is used to write directly on the screen of the PC. The text that is written is then digitalised shown on the screen in the user’s handwriting. Some PC’s even allow the user to use his fingertip to select certain menus and perform some functions.
A Tablet PC is the best solution for today’s ‘always on the run’ professionals like doctors, policemen, salespersons, journalists and many more. It has done away with bulky, wired computers and presents professionals with a sleek, lightweight and wireless option. The lightweight makes it portable and all the more convenient to carry. The largest advantage of such a PC is that it can be used while standing. Yes, that’s how light it is!
There are two kinds of Tablet PCs in the market, one without a keyboard, called the Slate Model, and the other with a hidden keyboard. The second type, called the Convertible Model, can be opened upright to reveal a keyboard, thus functioning as a laptop. There is another model called the Rugged Model, that is specially designed to endure rough working conditions and factors like changing weather moisture and dust.
Nearly all leading players in the PC manufacture market have ventured into the domain of producing Tablet PCs to meet its increasing demand. This itself is a proof of its increasing popularity amongst busy professionals. Its portability as well as its minimal space consumption are the two factors that is converting it into a necessary tool for the go getter.
